consejos para madres primerizas

A common saying states that “experience is the mother of science” and it is something difficult to refute: practical knowledge of things plays a vital role in any learning.

There is always the first time for each thing in life, also to be a mother, so from our Ciconea Family Club, we want to help you with a small list of tips for new moms.

However, this article is not intended, under any circumstances, to replace the work of the pediatrician. It is the medical professional whom we advise you to consult if you have any doubts or concerns about your baby’s health.

  1. Remember the documentation on admission

It is recommended that you present documentation at the time of your hospital admission before giving birth:

  • The mother’s handbook.
  • The most recent blood test.
  • The result of the SGB.
  • Your identification documents.

  1. Prepare your backpack and baby’s backpack in advance

At least one month before the due date, it is advisable to have a backpack ready with things that can be useful during the admission, as well as a bag with the things the baby will need.

What to include in the mother’s backpack

  • Nightshirts open at the front.
  • Breastfeeding bras.
  • Disposable panties.
  • Absorbent discs for when the chest rises.
  • Slippers for being around the house.
  • Cream to prevent nipple cracking
  • Comfortable clothes for the journey home that you like and make you feel good.
  • Toilet bag with toothbrush, comb, moisturizer, lip cocoa, deodorant, hair gums, gel, shampoo, cologne, or makeup if you use it daily.

What to include in the baby’s toiletry bag
  • Newborn baby diapers.
  • Wet wipes for newborns.
  • Diaper rash cream.
  • Moisturizing body cream for babies.
  • Baby Soap
  • Cologne without alcohol
  • A soft brush.
  • A bottle.
  • Several bodies to put under the clothes.
  • 3-4 pajamas.
  • Hat and mittens.
  • Some outfits you want to wear in your first few days
  • Muslin.
  • Bibs.

  1. Go to the hospital at the right time

Medical specialists recommend going to the hospital when one of the following circumstances occurs:

  • Broken water bag.
  • Bleeding equal to or greater than a period.
  • Rhythmic contractions – no less than one every five minutes – for at least one hour.

  1. Where should the baby sleep?

Specialists advise that the baby sleeps in the same room as the parents during the first months of life. Your baby will need a suitable place to sleep, for which the cradle is always a very good option. WHO and UNICEF recommend cribs as they encourage breastfeeding and reduce the likelihood of sudden infant death

  1. About the pacifier

The use of the pacifier is not recommended beyond three years of life, but besides that, remember: you should never hang it around their neck, it is not recommended because of the danger of suffocation.

  1. If the baby sleeps… take advantage!

Especially during the first weeks of life, the baby can relieve himself, cry, or be hungry at any time. Our advice is that – as far as possible – you should take advantage of your child’s sleep hours to sleep. This way your rest will not be completely disturbed.

  1. When choosing the name…

When choosing your baby’s name, remember that there are certain limits according to the Civil Registry Law:

  • The maximum is one composite name or two simple names.
  • You can choose the order of the surnames; it doesn’t have to be the man’s that goes first.
  • It is not allowed to choose names that create doubts about the sex of the baby, nor diminutives that can create confusion in identification.

  1. Remember: nerves are normal

Try to stay as calm as possible. Being a mother means starting a new life, it’s something you haven’t done before and you’ll learn little by little, so it’s the most normal thing in the world to be nervous. During the first weeks, everything will be a bit chaotic, but remember that you can ask for help if you need it and trust you, you’ll do great!

Every parent in the world has been through this (no one is born taught!) so we encourage you to enjoy the learning process and remember that what your baby needs most at birth is the love and companionship of his or her parents. Don’t be afraid to make a mistake, because as long as he has that, he will have a treasure.
